UTStarcom in Pact With China Telecom

, a telecommunications-services provider, entered a contract with China Telecommunications to deploy television and entertainment programming over the Internet in two cities in southern China.

The financial details were not disclosed. The cities, Fuzhou and Quanzhou, will see an initial deployment to support 12,000 and 37,000 concurrent media streams.

"Both Fuzhou and Quanzhou represent exciting and fertile opportunities for the growth of IPTV as less than 5 percent of the population in each city currently has access to broadband services," the company said.
