The retailer, which operates Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie and Free People stores, said earnings were $53 million, or 31 cents a share, compared with year-earlier earnings of $30.8 million, or 18 cents a share.
Sales were $480 million, Urban Outfitters said Thursday.
Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters anticipated earnings of 30 cents a share on revenue of $476.6 million.
Gross profit margins improved by 459 basis points vs. last year, the company said.
