Urban Outfitters Quarterly Sales Rise

Same-store sales are up 8% in the quarter.

said fourth-quarter same-store sales rose 8% from a year ago, reflecting strong results at its namesake and Free People chains.

Overall fourth-quarter revenue rose 27% from a year ago to $318.6 million. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call were expecting revenue of $323.65 million. The quarter ended Jan. 31.

Total comparable store sales for the quarter at Urban Outfitters, Free People and Anthropologie stores rose 13%, 21% and 2%, respectively. Direct-to-consumer sales rose 28% for the quarter, due to strong growth in all brands. Free People Wholesale sales jumped 110% for the quarter.

During the year ended last month, the company opened 15 Urban Outfitters stores, 14 Anthropologie stores and four Free People stores. The company plans to open 36 to 40 new stores, including three to five new Free People stores, during the current year.

"We are very pleased to report another record breaking quarter which pushed sales for the year above the billion dollar mark for the first time. In addition, response to our spring offerings is strong across all three brands, with the Free People businesses leading the gains,'' the company said.

Total sales for year ended Jan. 31, 2006 rose 32% from a year ago to $1.1 billion while same-store sales grew 11%.
