said fourth-quarter earnings rose 30% to $944 million, or 81 cents a share, from $726 million, or 60 cents, a year earlier on increased premium revenue.
Total revenue rose 6.5% to $21.78 billion from $20.45 billion. Premium revenue rose to $19.73 billion from $18.58 billion.
Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters estimated UnitedHealth, the managed-care firm, would earn 73 cents a share on revenue of $21.72 billion.
