Twitter has developed a reputation as of late for being a place where trolls and bullies get away with online harassment. Actress and Saturday Night Live cast member Leslie Jones famously took a break from Twitter over the summer after she was the victim of abuse including racist and misogynistic slurs.
Twitter VP of Global Brands Joel Lunefeld said that now consumers and advertisers are starting to realize what Twitter is meant to be used for, the Financial Post reports, but there are still incorrect perceptions about it.
"If you look back even a couple of years ago where there were issues of any kind of issue like spam or porn, we really have taken steps along the way to make sure we get in front of them to clean them up," Lunefeld said, according to the FP.
Shares of Twitter were lower by almost 2% to $14.83 on Monday morning.
