Trucks Drive Ford's October Sales

Ford said October sales rose 19.2% while year-to-date sales are up 21%.

said sales rose 19.2% in October, led by a 25% gain in truck sales.

The automaker reported that Ford, Lincoln and Mercury October sales totaled 157,935, while full-year- sales have risen 21% to 1.6 million. Mercury sales rose 12% to 7,477.

Overall sales growth has been twice the industry average, Ford said.

During October, Ford truck sales rose 25%, while car sales rose 20% and utilities rose 9%.

Leaders included the sub-compact Fiesta, which had its best month ever with sales of 3,846 units. "Fiesta is our strongest proof point yet that our global growth strategy is working," said Ken Czubay, vice president for US marketing and sales.

Ford Focus sales rose 23% to 12,396. Ford said its share of the small car segment has increased more than 50% from a year ago.

Meanwhile, sales of the midsized sedan Fusion rose 29% to 17,362 units and sales of the F-Series rose 24% to 49,041.
