reaffirmed its 2000 earnings expectations of at least $2.95 a share and said it expects its 2001 earnings-per-share estimate to be in the range of $3.18 to $3.22 a share.

The company also said it expects 2001 blended same-stores sales growth for its restaurant chains of 2% to 3% and ongoing operating earnings growth of 7% to 8%. In addition, it plans to open 1,350 new restaurants, including 850 internationally. By 2005, Tricon expects to grow to more than 35,000 restaurants globally and to "nearly double" its ongoing operating earnings per share.

Shares of Tricon were up 6.3%, or $1.94, to $32.69 at midday on the Big Board.
