TORRANCE, California (
said it will voluntarily recall about 51,000 of its 2011 Tundra trucks to inspect the rear drive shaft.
The rear drive shaft in an estimated 0.05% of the vehicles may include a component (slip yoke) that could break due to improper casting during the foundry process, the company said, noting that is aware of a single drive shaft slip yoke failure in a customer-owner vehicle.
Owners of the involved vehicles will receive a letter advising them of this recall, starting in May. An inspection at a Toyota dealership is expected to take 10 minutes. A repair would take more time and would be performed at no cost to the owner.
