Thursday's Tech Winners Losers

Analog Devices moves higher on a rise in quarterly revenue.

Shares of

Analog Devices

(ADI) - Get Analog Devices, Inc. Report

were among technology's winners Thursday, climbing 10% after the chipmaker posted first-quarter revenue that blew past estimates.

For the period ended Feb. 3, the company earned $153.2 million, or 44 cents a share, on revenue of $691.6 million. Excluding one-time items, the company earned 40 cents a share. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call expected earnings of 41 cents a share on revenue of $652 million. During the year-earlier period, the company earned $120.6 million, or 32 cents a share, on revenue of $621.3 million.

Looking ahead, Analog Devices sees second-quarter adjusted earnings of 37 cents to 42 cents a share on revenue of $640 million to $670 million. Analysts project earnings of 42 cents a share on revenue of $660.7 million. Shares were trading up $3.20 to $36.52.

ValueClick

(VCLK)

rose 9% after the online marketing company posted fourth-quarter results that topped expectations. The company earned $22.1 million, or 22 cents a share, on revenue of $160.4 million. Analysts expected earnings of 18 cents a share on revenue of $148.3 million. During the year-earlier quarter, the company earned $14.2 million, or 14 cents a share, on revenue of $116.6 million.

Looking ahead, ValueClick sees first-quarter earnings of 17 cents a share on revenue of $148 million to $149 million. Analysts project earnings of 17 cents a share on revenue of $146.5 million. Shares were trading up $2.38 to $28.85.

(SNPS) - Get Synopsys, Inc. Report

fell 4% after the software company posted better-than-expected first-quarter results but issued second-quarter guidance that didn't please investors. For the quarter ended Jan. 31, the company posted adjusted earnings of $44 million, or 30 cents a share, on revenue of $300.2 million. Analysts expected earnings of 27 cents a share on revenue of $295.5 million. During the year-earlier period, the company earned $26.4 million, or 18 cents a share, on revenue of $260.2 million.

Looking ahead, Synopsys sees second-quarter adjusted earnings of 26 cents to 29 cents a share on revenue of $285 million to $295 million. Analysts project earnings of 29 cents a share on revenue of $293.5 million. Shares were trading down $1 to $25.82.

Nuance Communications

(NUAN) - Get Nuance Communications, Inc. Report

traded actively after the software company agreed to acquire

BeVocal

for $140 million in cash and stock. Nuance expects the acquisition to add $21 million to $23 million in revenue to the company during 2007 and $65 million to $70 million during 2008. On an adjusted basis, the acquisition is expected to be accretive to earnings during 2007 and accretive to earnings during 2008.

"The acquisition of BeVocal expands our position as a leading supplier of speech enabled solutions to mobile carriers and their customers," Nuance said. The deal is expected to close before the end of March. Shares of Nuance were recently trading down 15 cents to $14.83.
