Bell Helicopter, a unit of
, signed a $2.2 billion contract with the U.S. Army to build its next-generation armed reconnaissance helicopter.
The helicopter will replace the Army's OH-58D Kiowa Warrior, which is also produced by Bell. The contract calls for Bell to build 368 aircraft for delivery during fiscal years 2006 through 2013.
Bell said the helicopter is a militarized version of its 407 single-engine light helicopter. The company said the helicopter is capable of being equipped with a variety of weapons, and will provide the Army with the ability to perform armed reconnaissance, light attack, troop insertion and special operations missions.
Shares of Textron closed Friday at $74.17, down 94 cents.
