Tesla (TSLA) - Get Tesla Inc Report will double the size of its charging network in 2017, including the expansion of current locations so that drivers can minimize charging times, the company announced this afternoon.
"Tesla will double that number to total more than 10,000 Superchargers and 15,000 Destination Charging connectors around the world. In North America, we'll increase the number of Superchargers by 150 percent, and in California alone, we'll add more than 1,000 Superchargers," the company confirmed on its website.
Tesla argued that the investment to further the develop its charging stations will significantly advance electric vehicle adoption.
The charging stations are slated to be built along the busiest travel routes, and many other sites will be built further from the highway, allowing for local drivers to charge more efficiently.
