were among the

NYSE's

losers Friday after the company warned that third-quarter earnings won't meet Wall Street expectations.

The maker of synthetic and natural graphite products now expects to post a third-quarter profit of 11 cents to 13 cents a share, down from previous guidance of 12 cents to 15 cents a share. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had been expecting earnings of 14 cents a share. Shares of GrafTech traded down $1.75, or 12.8%, to $11.90.

Tempur-Pedic International

(TPX) - Get Report

rose 1.9% after the company said third-quarter earnings and sales would come in above expectations. The mattress and pillow company expects third-quarter pro forma earnings of 21 cents to 23 cents a share on sales of $181 million, which is above the 18 cents a share in earnings and $160.8 million in sales that analysts had been expecting. Tempur-Pedic will post its third-quarter earnings on Oct. 21. Shares traded up 29 cents to $15.54.

Shares of

Select Comfort

(SCSS)

fell 5.4% after the company warned that its third-quarter earnings will miss expectations. The bed retailer now expects pro forma earnings of 21 cents to 22 cents a share, below its previous guidance of 22 cents to 25 cents a share. Preliminary sales during the quarter came in at $144.3 million, slightly below the $145.4 million that analysts were expecting. Select Comfort plans to release its full third-quarter results on Oct. 19. Shares traded down 95 cents to $16.50.

Millennium Cell

( MCEL) rose 8.6% after the company was awarded a subcontract to develop hydrogen storage systems for the Defense Department. The contract is part of first-year activities under the Defense Department's contract to develop common core power production technology for the U.S. Air Force. Shares traded up 11 cents to $1.39.

Shares of

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

(KKD)

fell 4.3% after the company announced that a

Securities and Exchange Commission's

inquiry is now a formal investigation. In July, the doughnut maker said the Commission had opened an informal inquiry, looking for information that "generally concerns the company's franchise reacquisitions and the company's previously announced reduction in earnings guidance." Shares of Krispy Kreme traded down 56 cents to $12.51.
