Coffee giant Starbucks (SBUX) - Get Report  announced on Tuesday that it is adding new items to its food menu that are gluten free and vegan friendly. Costumers that have celiac disease, or that just prefer to omit gluten from their diets can try Starbucks' gluten free smoked Canadian Bacon Breakfast Sandwich.

"You have this whole group of consumers who believe gluten isn't good for you," Technomic Chief Insights Officer Darren Tristano told CNBC. "Many are younger consumers and if you're not speaking their language, you risk losing [them]."

For those customers that prefer foods that are free of any animal products, Starbucks has announced a sprouted grain bagel to its current lineup of vegan bagel choices.

"I don't see that this will have a dramatic impact on [Starbucks] sales but will help more with retention of customers. This is designed to build trust with customers, so they respect your brand," Tristano added.
