Disney's (DIS) - Get Report Lucasfilm announced on Tuesday that the latest installment of 'Star Wars, Episode IX', the final film in the original Star Wars epic has been delayed until December 20, 2019.

The delay is roughly a seven-month postponement from the movie's original slated premiere date of May 24, 2019. Additionally, the entertainment conglomerate also announced on Tuesday that director J.J. Abrams will replace the movie's former director Colin Trevorrow.

Abrams previously directed 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', whose $2.06 billion worldwide gross made it one of the highest grossing films of all time.

Production of the film had been scheduled to begin January 2018, but it remains unclear if these new changes to the movie will delay that start date.

Shares of Disney closed almost 1% higher on Tuesday.
