, a maker of industrial products, said Monday that executive vice president and chief operating officer Tom Riordan submitted his resignation effective Jan. 2, 2007.

SPX said it would simplify its organizational structure by eliminating the position of chief operating officer.

The company also named Jim Peters as vice president operations. He would be appointed as a corporate officer, subject to board approval.
