Southwest Airlines   (LUV) - Get Southwest Airlines Co. Report CEO Gary Kelly told CNBC today that the airline will put an end to overbooking flights.

"I've made the decision, the company made the decision, that we will cease to overbook going forward," he said.

His stance comes just a week after United Continental (UAL) - Get United Airlines Holdings, Inc. Report passenger Dr. David Dao was violently removed from the plane after refusing to give up his seat on an overbooked flight.

"I bet we don't overbook a flight more than say one seat," Kelly said. "We've been taking steps over the last several years to prepare ourselves for this anyway."

Shares of Southwest Airlines were lower about 2% during afternoon trading on Thursday.
