SoftBank (SFTBF) is said to have approached Uber's China rival Didi about making a $6 billion investment to help the ride sharing company expand its self-driving car technology, sources told the Wall Street Journal.

Most of the investment would come from SoftBank's $100 billion Vision Fund with the hope of finding new value in China's growing ride sharing market.

The technology fund was originally supposed to launch in January, but has been delayed as SoftBank investigates various demands from different investors including Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Development Co., Apple,  (AAPL) - Get ReportQualcomm (QCOM) - Get Report and Oracle, (ORCL) - Get Report the source added.
