Nick Bell, the head of content for Snap Inc.'s (SNAP) - Get Snap, Inc. Class A Report Snapchat said on Wednesday that the messaging app will likely move into scripted content via Snapchat Shows by the end of the year, Variety reports.
It's "an interesting next juncture" for the company, Bell said.
Bell added that Snapchat doesn't intend to combat traditional networks or broadcasts, rather he contends the app could work with them and better leverage their content on its platform.
"Mobile is the most complementary thing to TV that has been around," Bell said, insisting that Snapchat was not a "TV killer. We're really capturing the audience who are not probably consuming TV at the same rate and pace of engagement that they once were."
His goal is to transform mobile phone devices into "the remote control for your TV consumption" and sees mobile as "fundamentally a new medium."
Shares of Snap closed trading up 3.85% on Wednesday.
