Canadian e-commerce software company Shopify  (SHOP) - Get Shopify, Inc. Class A Report plans to launch a wireless card reader in the U.S. that will charge 2.4% per swipe. 

The reader will be compatible with Apple's  (AAPL) - Get Apple Inc. (AAPL) Report iOS and Alphabet's  (GOOGL) - Get Alphabet Inc. Class A Report Android platforms, and will compete with Square's e-reader, which charges 2.75% per swipe. 

The reader will support Visa  (V) - Get Visa Inc. Class A ReportMaserCard  (MA) - Get Mastercard Inc. (MA) Report and American Express  (AXP) - Get American Express Company Report  cards. Shopify shares were up over 4% Thursday.
