Sempra Settles Lawsuit

and its California utilities, San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Gas, settled a lawsuit related to service curtailments that were imposed on some gas customers in 2000 and 2001.

The settlement of the suit, which was brought by the California Public Utilities Commission and California attorney general, also resolves two utility commission investigations into the price of natural gas and affiliate-compliance issues.

Sempra and its utilities denied any wrongdoing. The estimated after-tax cost of the settlement is less than $5 million, and it won't have a material effect on the company's earnings.

The case was pending in San Diego County Superior Court. The settlement doesn't cover the California attorney general's lawsuit against Sempra Commodities that was brought last November.
