The Cincinnati-based publisher said Davis, 36, was assistant controller. She will become controller of the newspaper division Wednesday after the long-planned departure of Bill Freeman, who retires after more than 30 years with the company.

On Tuesday, Scripps shares fell 8 cents to $48.24.
