Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (SSNLF) and Foxconn parent Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd (HNHPF) are teaming up with a startup that's earned backing from Apple Inc (AAPL) - Get Report iPod engineer Tony Fadell to create a way for mobile phones to transfer huge amounts of data without Wi-Fi or cables, Reuters reported.
California-based startup Keyssa has raised more than $100 million in funding, secured deals to work with Samsung and Hon Hai and earned Fadell's backing for its "kiss" technology. The technology would let two computing devices placed in close proximity transfer files as large as full-length movies in seconds.
Keyssa announced in October that it had worked with Intel Corp (INTC) - Get Report to develop kiss technology for two-in-one touch screen laptops. The venture with Samsung and Hon Hai focuses on smartphones.
