tally.
Of the 26 companies tracked, 24 topped Wall Street's forecast. Only two --
Abercrombie & Fitch

J.C. Penney

-- missed expectations.
Discounters, which include
Target
(TGT) - Get Report
,
Costco
(COST) - Get Report
and
TJX
(TJX) - Get Report
, among others, posted an average gain of 7.8%, according to
TheStreet's
tally. Specialty retailers like
Gap
(GPS) - Get Report
,
American Eagle Outfitters
(AEO) - Get Report
and
Limited Brads
(LTD)
, grew 10.8%, while department stores soared 10.9%.
The weakest category was drugstores, which inched up just 1.1%.
