said October same-store sales fell 1.9% compared with last year as its department store division posted lower revenue.

Total sales for the four weeks ended Oct. 28 fell 1.4% to $493.6 million from $500.6 million last year. Sales at the company's department store group fell 3.1% to $290.9 million from $300.2 million last year, while Saks Fifth Avenue posted 1.1% growth to $202.7 million from $200.4 million last year.

Total sales for the quarter rose 1.2% to $1.56 billion from $1.54 billion last year, and same-store sales rose 0.4% for the quarter from a year ago.

Shares of Saks were recently up 31 cents, or 3.2%, to $10.19 in
