) -- Retail sales rose 1.2% in October according to a report from the U.S. Census Bureau.

October sales came in at $373.1 billion, and represented a 7.3% improvement over sales results for October 2009. Sales for the three months through October increased 6.3% over the same period a year ago.

Retail sales gained 1.3 percent from the previous month and were 7.7% ahead of Oct. 2009. Auto sales spiked 14.7% from a year ago.
