Roy Disney, the nephew of the late Walt Disney, resigned as vice chairman of the company's board of directors ,and called on Chairman and CEO Michael Eisner to step down, according to a report on The Wall Street Journal's Web site Sunday evening.
In a three-page letter, Disney, who originally was pleased with Eisner's stewardship since he took over in 1984, blasted Eisner for his management of the ABC networks and Disney theme parks in the last seven years, and criticized him for micromanagement, the
shares closed Friday in
trading at $23.09, up a penny. The stock's 52-week high is $23.80.
A Disney spokesperson originally declined comment,
The Disney board is scheduled to meet on Tuesday.
