NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- A championship is not an easy thing to come by -- just ask the New York Rangers. They are heading to the Stanley Cup Finals after a 20-year drought.

At the end of a long season there is only one competitor that gets to hoist the trophy in any league. Attending that final game is plenty tough for fans, too. Whether it's the Masters, the Super Bowl or any other sport, prices can get expensive on the secondary market.

The Stanley Cup Finals won't be any different for New York Rangers fans this year. With the team making the Finals for the first time since 1994, prices have skyrocketed on the secondary market.

Across all three possible home games, the average price is currently $2,439.85 for Rangers tickets, which is the most expensive series average TiqIQ has ever recorded. The most expensive game of the series at Madison Square Garden is Game 6, which will only be played if necessary, with an average price of $2,672.87.

The 2011 Vancouver Canucks were the only other team to average over $2,000 for a series. Last season, the most expensive Stanley Cup Finals game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins was Game 5 at the United Center, which has an average secondary market price of $1,699.85.

Stanley Cup Finals games at Madison Square Garden this year won't just be expensive relative to other hockey games, they'll compare to the most expensive sporting events in the past year.

The most expensive average price for the past year belongs to the 2013 BCS National Championship game featuring the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida. Tickets averaged $4,572 -- the only game to average over $4,000 --  for Notre Dame fans wanting to see the team's first BCS National Championship, and the team's first title since 1988. While Alabama fans were hoping to see their team win a second consecutive title, and their third in four years.

The only other events to average more than the Rangers Game 6 were the past two Super Bowls and the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Canelo Alvarez boxing match at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Super Bowl XLVII at the Superdome between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers averaged $3,152.21 on the secondary market, while Super Bowl XLVIII at Metlife Stadium between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks averaged $3,375.88. Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s fight had an average price of $2,887.69.
