recorded a 9% increase in same-store sales in January, the company said Tuesday.

The home electronics retailer reported total sales of $370.3 million, up 13% from $328.9 million in January 2000. The company, which is based in Fort Worth, Texas, attributed the increase to higher sales in the parts, accessories and batteries category, but the biggest gains came in the computer category.

The sales momentum should continue, the company said in a press release. "With the second-quarter launch of the Verizon store-within-a-store, RadioShack will be in a position to further grow its market share in wireless phones and capitalize on the explosive demand for digital technology," the company said.

RadioShack will release its earnings for the fourth quarter and fiscal year on Feb. 22.
