Abercrombie said net income for the first quarter ended May 1 rose to $29.7 million, or 31 cents a share, from $25.6 million, or 26 cents a share.
Sales rose 19% to $411.9 million from $346.7 million a year earlier. Same-store sales were flat for the quarter.
A Thomson First Call consensus analyst estimate had expected the company to earn 30 cents a share on sales of $405.4 million.
For the second quarter, Abercrombie said in a statement Monday it is comfortable with EPS estimates of 38 cents to 40 cents, assuming a continuation of the first-quarter same-store sales trend.
First Call is expecting the company to earn 38 cents a share in the second quarter.
