Operating Chief Paul Twohig quit Thursday after almost two years in the job.

The St. Louis-based operator of bakery cafes didn't offer any explanation for Twohig's resignation. The company said his responsibilities will be split among senior vice presidents John Maguire, Mike Kupstas and Michael Nolan.

Early Thursday, Panera shares slipped 37 cents to $37.90.
