Panera (PNRA) said same-store sales rose 5.9% in September, but the company's third-quarter revenue still fell short of Wall Street targets.

The St. Louis-based bakery chain said sales for the quarter ended Sept. 26 rose 30% from a year ago to $205 million, shy of the $206.6 million Thomson Financial analyst consensus estimate. Same-store sales, reflecting sales in stores open at least 18 months, rose 2.8% for the quarter.
