Netflix (NFLX) - Get Report CEO Reed Hastings told venture capitalist Peter Thiel that he exercised "catastrophically bad judgment" in supporting Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election, Recode reported.

Hastings, who serves as the chair of Facebook's (FB) - Get Report board of directors, told Thiel, who is a board member, that he could suffer professionally at the hand of his political views in an August 2016 email. Thiel is isolated among peers in his conservative politics , which are unique in Silicon Valley.

"Some diversity in views is healthy," Hastings wrote to Thiel, "but catastrophically bad judgment (in my view) is not what anyone wants in a fellow board member." The note came a few weeks after Thiel spoke on Trump's behalf during the Republican National Convention and gave millions to conservative super PACs.
