Shares of Microsoft (MSFT) , the world's most valuable publicly-traded company and the only one with a market cap above $1 trillion, were rising after hours as the software giant met high expectations for its June quarter (fiscal fourth quarter) earnings after the close on Thursday. 

Earnings per share of $1.37 (up 7%) beat expectations of $1.21 while revenues of $33.72 billion surpassed estimates for $32.77 billion (up 9% annually).

Microsoft shares were up 1.45% to $138.40 in after-hours trading.
