NEW YORK (

TheStreet

) -- Who says 3D is dead?

The Lion King 3D

has generated $62 million since its debut, topping the box office charts for the second weekend in a row.

As a result,

Walt Disney

(DIS) - Get Free Report

plans to extend the run of the film, which was originally slated for just two weeks in theaters. The details are still being determined.

The re-release of

The Lion King

will also be made available next week on Blu-ray and DVD.

"This is higher than many other original films and will be highly profitable for Walt Disney, as we estimate the 3D conversion cost is less than $10 million," Janney Capital Markets analyst Tony Wible wrote in a note. "The success will encourage more studios to invest in 3D and shows that the decline in some 3D films is likely tied to a discerning consumer rather than a dying fad."
