Lands' End unit said Tuesday that it would slash more than 375 jobs in an effort to control costs.
The company, which sells clothes through its Internet site as well as over the phone, said it would close its Cross Plains, Wis., call center effective June 5.
"Customer demand for shopping Lands' End through multiple channels has grown, while phone center contact has declined," the Dodgeville, Wis., company said. "To maintain its leadership position, the company is reducing phone center capacity, streamlining overall business operations and restructuring its product development functions."
Lands' End said it would cut 200 full-time, 175 part-time and "a number" of seasonal jobs.
Sears bought Lands' End in late 2002 in an effort to push the giant department store chain's apparel offerings upmarket. Sears said late last year that it would trim back Lands' End products in some of its stores, particularly those serving lower-income consumers.
On Tuesday, Sears fell 29 cents to $50.60.
