Knight Capital Tops Estimates

Shares are higher in early trading.

, the New Jersey-based market maker, posted much stronger results than analysts had been expecting for the third quarter.

The company said Wednesday that its earnings rose to $31.5 million, or 30 cents a share, from $24.4 million, or 23 cents a share, in the same period a year ago.

Revenue for the third quarter totaled $210 million, compared with $184.1 million for the same quarter in 2005. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial were calling for a profit of 20 cents and revenue of $173.5 million.

Shares of Knight rose 2.4% in premarket trading Wednesday.
