said sales for the four weeks ended Nov. 25 rose 1.6% from the same period a year ago, citing a stronger-than-expected Thanksgiving weekend.
The Plano, Texas, retailer said sales for the four-week period came in at $2.92 billion, up from $2.88 billion in the comparable 1999 period. Department store sales rose 0.1%, and same-store sales grew 0.7% from last year.
Total drugstore sales for the four-week period increased 3.3% to $998 million from $966 million in the year-ago period. On a same-store basis, sales increased 8.4%.
