Activist investment firm Jana Partners took a 9% stake in Whole Foods Market  (WFM) Monday in an effort to pressure the company to speed up its turnaround while also exploring a possible sale, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Jana is now Whole Foods second largest stakeholder as company's stock has risen 5% over the past 12 months after losing about half its value since 2013.
