KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a strong track record in predicting Apple Inc (AAPL) - Get Report product plans, said the flagship iPhone 8 handset will launch with iPhone 7S and 7S Plus models in September in limited styles and quantities, AppleInsider reported.

The iPhone 8 will come in black, silver and gold and will probably be announced alongside the iPhone 7 upgrades in September. Rumors it wouldn't be available until later in the fall are likely unfounded, Kuo said in a note.

But supplies will be "extremely short," with an expected two million to four million units made this quarter. Kuo expects production to ramp up quickly, though, with 45 million to 50 million units produced this year. The phone is expected to enter product verification later this month and enter mass production in September.

All of these iPhone models will support fast charging, but the bells and whistles to use ultra-fast power will likely cost extra. Kuo joined analysts in suspecting the iPhone 8 will have 3-D facial recognition, an edge-to-edge OLED display and a hefty price tag.

Apple stock traded up 1.5% to $161.17 per share Tuesday afternoon.
