Facebook (FB) owned photo sharing app Instagram has added new features to its direct message service, as users can now send external web links and photos with different orientations, Techcrunch says.

With the ability to send web links Instagram users have less of a reason to look at other apps to send messages.

The update also includes inline previews for URLs pasted into the message. The updates are currently available for Apple (AAPL) iOS users and will soon be available on Android (GOOGL) devices.
