Iconix Reportedly Breaks Off Playboy Talks - TheStreet

CHICAGO (

TheStreet

) --

Iconix Brand

(ICON) - Get Report

has called off talks to buy

Playboy

( PLA) since it would have been too complicated to separate the Playboy brand from the company's other assets, a report says.

Iconix was interested in licensing the brand and wanted to divest, shut down or find partners for Playboy units,

Bloomberg

reports, citing two people familiar with the matter.

However, the situation is still fluid and may be resolved soon, another source told

Bloomberg

.

A purchase of Playboy would have expanded Iconix beyond its apparel brands, which include Joe Boxer and Candie's.

It was reported by the

Los Angeles Times

last month that Iconix and a group led by Jim Griffiths, Playboy's former entertainment president, were both

in talks to acquire the company

and take it private for more than $300 million.

Later in November, reports said Playboy had agreed to outsource most of the business operations of

Playboy

magazine to

American Media
