Ice Storm Pelts JetBlue

Preliminary February passenger unit revenue slips 4%.

Last month's ice storm put the deep freeze on JetBlue's (JBLU) - Get Report operational efficiency.

The New York-based discount airline said Thursday that preliminary passenger-per-seat-mile revenue fell 4% in February, including the financial impact of the storm on Feb. 14, which resulted in 1,191 canceled flights and numerous delays over a six-day period.

JetBlue's traffic rose 3.2%, buoyed by a 7.6% rise in capacity, which included the effect of reconfiguring the airline's Airbus A320 aircraft flee to 150 seats from 156 seats.

However, load facter, the percentage of occupied seats, fell 3.4 percentage points to 80% in February.

Shares of JetBlue were recently up 8 cents to $11.82.
