SAN FRANCISCO --
chief marketing officer, Roger Adams, is stepping down from his post.
In a memo sent to employees on Wednesday, Chief Executive Frank Blake said Adams is leaving the home improvement chain to "pursue other opportunities." Adams joined Home Depot in 2005 as vice president of marketing.
Last October, he moved up to become chief marketing officer.
Adams oversaw several projects during his tenure, including the company's partnership with the National Football League.
John Ross, vice president of advertising, will replace Adams as interim chief marketing officer. Ross has been with Home Depot for 10 years.
Adams' departure comes at a time when the Atlanta-based company, along with its rival,
, is seeing a slowdown in sales. Both companies, as well as smaller competitors, have been hurt by the slumping real estate market, with fewer people willing to invest in home improvements.
Shares of Home Depot fell 4 cents in after-hours trading to $31.74.
