NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Some of the more famous wealthy faces in the U.S. are, not surprisingly, living in the lap of luxury with their array of state-of-the-art, jaw dropping estates.

Their mansions are loaded with amenities out-of-reach for most Americans, from tennis courts to outdoor fireplaces. And some of them, notably Facebook's (FB) - Get Report Mark Zuckerberg, are willing to pay more than top dollar for surrounding real estate, placing a premium on their privacy.

But when you considering the wild success of the likes of Elon Musk, who co-founded Tesla (TSLA) - Get Report , along with its skyrocketing share prices, and Jeff Bezos, now one of the world's wealthiest people thanks to his company Amazon (AMZN) - Get Report , the amount they spend on their personal properties is small compared to their overall billionaire wealth.

Afterall, none of these notable success stories has a personal real estate portfolio valued at more than a couple million -- a small fraction of their wealth when the majority of Americans consider their home their largest life investment.

Larry Ellison

Property Value: $266.5 million

Founder of Oracle (ORCL) - Get Report , a hardware and software company based in Redwood City, Calif., Larry Ellison has no shortage of places to put down his bags.

The billionaire owns 16 properties, including 12 in California, three in Nevada (including the one pictured in Lake Tahoe) and one in Rhode Island, according to Trulia. All together, Ellison's homes hold nearly 100 bathrooms. Two of Ellison's properties sit on more than 10,000 acres of land.

Bill Gates

Co-Founder of Microsoft

Number of Properties: 5

Property Value: $201.4 million

Microsoft (MSFT) - Get Report co-founder Bill Gates is known for using his billions for charity causes, but he has certainly reserved some for his own enjoyment, namely five properties valued at $201.4 million.

Gates' Washington estate (pictured above), valued at $157.2 million, is the most expensive home held by any of these property owners. Among all his properties, he has 43 bathrooms and 24 bedrooms -- a roughly 2:1 ratio -- with his Washington property housing 20 bedrooms, according to Trulia.

Donald Trump

Real Estate Developer, Presidential Candidate

Number of Properties: 3

Property Value: $52.8 million

"The Donald," a real estate mogul more famous nowadays for his media-garnering campaign to run as the Republican presidential candidate, certainly has plenty of posh living space to take a rest from his packed days of stumping politics and giving interviews.

While Trump's business has invested in countless properties across the country, the billionaire personally only owns three for himself, though those three are valued at a combined $52.8 million. He's the only billionaire on this list to hold property in New York.

Mark Zuckerberg

Chairman & CEO of Facebook

Number of Properties: 5

Property Value: $39.8 million

Riding the success of his vast social networking empire, Zuckerberg has certainly found at least one way to enjoy his money is sinking it into new homes.

Zuckerberg owns five properties valued together at nearly $40 million. He reportedly secretly spent $30 million buying his neighbor's property to preserve his privacy in the San Francisco area. It's nothing new for Zuckerberg, who also paid $14.5 million for a home valued at $3.2 million, again in the name of privacy.

Property Value: $27.4 million

Tesla might be based in Silicon Valley, but Elon Musk wants to live with the rest of the Hollywood celebrities.

In the midst of trying to launch America's next major automaker, Musk surely needs a nice place to lay his weary head -- and, in fact he has three, according to Trulia.

Among Musk's mansions, he paid roughly $17 million for a 20,248-square-foot Bel Air estate, a home he had been renting for three years and living there with his five sons. That home has seven bedrooms, a giant screening room and a tennis court. Musk also paid $6.75 million for the rancher across the street.

Jeff Bezos

Property Value: $34.5 million

As Jeff Bezos is now firmly entrenched among the top 20 wealthiest people in the world, he's put some of his wealth into real estate.

Bezos can watch his company's soaring stock -- with prices up 78% the past year -- from the comfort of two cushy properties valued at a combined $34.5 million.

George Lucas

Property Value: $24.0 million

George Lucas has used the Force to help get him a home or two.

Creator of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, Lucas has three properties in California, but they are all in lesser known cities -- Nicasio, San Aselmo and Carpinteria.

One of Lucas' properties is located, appropriately enough, on Lucas Valley Road, according to Trulia.

Evan Spiegel

Founder, CEO of Snapchat

Number of Properties: 1

Property Value: $3.3 million

Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel lived at home with his father (albeit it in a $4.25 million mansion) until he purchased his Spanish-style "starter home" mansion in Los Angeles' posh Brentwood neighborhood last year. The 2,800-square-foot, four-bedroom home has hot tub, outdoor fireplace and large yard.

Spiegel has said he's in the midst of planning an IPO for Snapchat, a company some say could be worth $16 billion, in a move that would surely give him more funds to grow his personal real estate portfolio.
