NEW YORK (TheStreet) - The Alfa Romeo 4C is a tiny sports car that packs a huge punch. Its engine delivers 237 horsepower and goes from zero to 60 miles per hour in 4.3 seconds. It's sporty, stylish, fast and, as an added bonus, at 28 miles per gallon it's not as bad for the environment as so many other high-performance sports cars that get poor gas mileage

For those interested in high performance and being conscious of the environment at the same time, there are options, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's preliminary Fuel Economy Guide for 2015 models. For example, the 2015 BMW 428i convertible can zip to a quarter mile in 13.8 seconds and still gets 27 miles per gallon. The Honda CR-Z's top speed of 124 miles per hour is nothing to sneeze at -- and neither is the 34 miles it gets per gallon of gas.

The EPA will release official data for 2015 models in November. For now, here are the sports cars with the best gas mileage.
