won approval to offer its Medicare Advantage, SmartChoice plan in five Connecticut counties.
The Los Angeles-based HMO said the clearance in Middlesex, New London, Tolland, Windham and Litchfield makes Health Net the sole health plan to offer Medicare Advantage plans to all Medicare beneficiaries throughout Connecticut.
"We are excited to be expanding our SmartChoice health plans throughout the entire state of Connecticut," said Steven H. Nelson, president, Health Net of the Northeast. "Our experience serving this population enables us to deliver plan designs with significant savings and broad coverage of preventive and wellness services not offered by traditional Medicare nor Medicare Supplement plans."
Health Net has been serving the Medicare population in Hartford, Fairfield and New Haven counties for more than 15 years.
Early Friday, Health Net was flat at $39.82.
