Grocery stocks got a lift Thursday, in line with the broader market.

Shares of Kroger , which Thursday announced a quarterly dividend of $9 cents per share to be paid June 1, rose 2.3% to $21.30.

Whole Foods was up 9.6% to $14.11.

Safeway rose 3.7% to $19.07.

SuperValu rose 3.1% to $14.83.

Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. rose 10.8% to $4.31.

Costco rose 3.3% to $40.86.

BJ's Wholesale rose 3.5% to $29.05.

Wal-Mart rose 3.1% to $48.94.
