In line with an early surge in the broader market, grocery stocks were primarily on the plus side Wednesday.
Costco
(COST) - Get Report
was rising 0.9% to $41.07 despite having posted a
second-quarter profit
that fell 27% from the same period a year earlier.
BJ's Wholesale Club
(BJ) - Get Report
, meanwhile, reported a
5% increase
in profit for its fiscal fourth quarter. Shares subsequently rose 8.8% to $29.85.
Elsewhere:
Safeway was up 3% to $18.54.
Kroger was up 3.1% to $20.82.
Winn-Dixie ( WINN) was down 0.2% to $9.37.
Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. ( GAP) was up 8.8% to $3.58.
Whole Foods Market ( WFMI) was up 5.2% to $12.26.
Supervalu was up 5.8% to $16.07.
Wal-Mart was up 3.1% to $48.86.
