(GM) - Get General Motors Company Report

is recalling about 783,000 cars to replace the hazard-warning switches, which could malfunction in certain models.

The recall covers model-year 2000 and 2001 Chevy Malibus, Oldsmobile Aleros and Pontiac Grand Ams. About 671,000 of the affected cars are in the U.S. and around 88,000 are in Canada.

A problem with the switch in the cars could cause the hazard lights or the turn signals to stop working. The company hasn't received any reports of accidents or injuries as a result of the switch problem.

The cars being recalled were built between Feb. 1, 2000, and May 1, 2001.

Shares of GM were down 57 cents, or 1.3%, to $41.90 in recent
