The automaker said it would disable the system module and would pay $100 compensation to owners and lessors.

Five fives have occurred as a result of the flaw, GM said, but no injuries have been reported.

Recalled vehicles include various Buick, Cadillac, Hummer, Chevrolet, GMC and Saturns for model years 2006 through 2009. A recall was implemented in 2008 to add a fuse to the control circuit harness, but new reports of overheating have surfaced since then, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
